Smoke Free Housing Toolkit

Resource: Toolkits

Health Resources in Action created a toolkit to support both public housing and private landlords in creating and implementing smoke-free policies in order to protect the health of their tenants and reduce costs. includes downloadable templates for policy language, communication letters, and press releases, as well as handouts and sample presentations. It is organized within a five-step framework and emphasizes gathering data and engaging residents to create a successful policy:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Engage
  3. Make a Plan
  4. Get the Word Out
  5. Your Plan in Action

The toolkit was created in collaboration with the Public Health Advocacy Institute at Northeastern University with funding from MA DPH’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program.
