We are seeking a Budget Analyst to play a vital role within the Budget, Analysis, & Reporting department, ensuring the effective management of financial resources through meticulous analysis, forecasting, and reporting.

Position Description

The Budget Analyst plays a vital role within the Budget, Analysis, & Reporting department, ensuring the effective management of financial resources through meticulous analysis, forecasting, and reporting. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. The Budget Analyst will collaborate closely with various departments to develop, monitor, and adjust budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial regulations.

This is a fully remote position with the flexibility to go into our Boston Office. The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Budget Development: Assist in the development of departmental and project budgets by gathering relevant financial data, analyzing historical trends, and forecasting future financial needs.

Budget Monitoring: Monitor budgetary performance by comparing actual results and projected activities to budgeted expectations, identifying variances, and investigating discrepancies.

Financial Analysis: Conduct thorough financial analysis to provide insights into budgetary performance, cost trends, revenue projections, and potential areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities.

Reporting: Prepare comprehensive and accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, for internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.

Forecasting: Utilize financial modeling techniques to forecast future financial performance, revenue projections, and budgetary requirements based on historical data and new information.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, policies, and procedures, and participate in audits to verify adherence to established guidelines and funder requirements.

Collaboration: Collaborate with department heads, project managers, and other stakeholders to develop and review budgets, provide financial guidance, and support decision-making processes.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline budgeting processes, enhance financial reporting systems, and implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Training and Support: Provide training and support to staff members on budgeting processes, financial systems, and reporting requirements to promote financial literacy and accountability across the organization.

Special Projects: Participate in special projects, ad-hoc analyses, and initiatives as assigned by the Budget Manager or senior leadership team.

Candidate Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred but not required.

Experience: 4-6- years of relevant post-undergraduate degree experience with 2-3 years’ experience in budget analysis, financial planning, contracts administration, or related roles in the nonprofit or public sector. Experience with federal and/or state government contracts is desirable.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends, and draw meaningful insights to support decision-making.

Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel, proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting software, Microsoft 365 and ERP systems.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting.

Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing business needs and priorities.

Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build positive working relationships.

Integrity: Commitment to upholding ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies.

Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
